Great resource for reading comprehension worksheets. This Ereading worksheet  page has been created  by Mr. Donald Morton That, as it is said in his page “is a prolific online reading, language arts, and teaching enthusiast“. Mr. Morton holds a B.A. in English from Northern Illinois University and an M.A. in Literature from Northeastern Illinois University.

Anyway I would like to  hightlight some that I have been used in my clsses and that have been a great help for my students. These are the Reading Worksheets by Grade Level. You have also the correct answers.

One common exercise not only in exams, but also in class are reading comprehension exercises. A very important skill to be promoted in our students. It is a fact that, sometimes,  reading comprehension  is a hard process in the adquisition of a second language for our learners but it is essential for them.

We can say that the first step consits on recognizing letters and words. But we all know that is very important for our students to comprehend, or understand, what they are reading. What is the  meaning of the text: What does the author want to tell the reader? This is reading comprehension, and it is an essential skill for success in school and in the real world.

Here there is a great site for reading to help your students: CommonLit that is a completely free literacy resource design for 3rd – 12th grade classrooms.  The resource is accessible on any internet-enabled device , questions, and tools for helping students improve their ELA skills.  Overall, CommonLit offers a wealth of possibilities for the classroom. 

It offers a growing collection of literacy resources include nonfiction documents, historical texts, poems, news articles,   and all of them  have some assessment tools and are aligned to CCSS.

This website is very helpful for educators looking to select texts for lesson plans. The site allows you to choose appropriate texts for your students. So that, you can choose:  a theme, discussion question, and grade level-band. CommonLit also includes text-dependent and discussion questions, vocabulary definitions, paired texts, and teacher guides.

The library  contains over 1100 readings, and it is continuosly expanding.  You can filter your search by grade level, theme, genre, related books, device (e.g. hyperbole, irony, etc.), and standard.  Additionally, each reading is characterized by type (e.g. alliteration, assonance etc.)

As a teacher,if you sign in you can have your own dashboard where you can see all the assignments your student’s progress (organized by class),  and you can also add a new assignment to send out to your students.

In addition, you can download the pdf and your students can read at the same time they can listen to the audio.

One more interesting thing is the dictionary . Just only you or your student select the word from the text with the mouse. Then, click the button with the open book icon to look the word up.

With CommonLit the students can also highlight, and translate features.  All of these are great for helping students with different needs.

Listening and reading  news in level is a good way to help your students to improve their english. It is a great page with more than 2,000 world news .

Listening and reading news in level allow your students  to improve their English naturally and fast. All the articles are short and  use words which are used in English often. Each article is written in 3 levelsLevel 1 has the 1000 most important words. Level 2 has the 2000 most important words. Level 3 has the 3000 most important words.

If your students could  read and listen to two articles every day, their  reading and listening skills can improve fast.

Listening and reading news in level is a free  site  both for students and teachers. It  is also a great resource for English teachers who would like to discuss current world issues in the class.

Teaching kids to sew

 

 Teaching kids to sew it’s a great idea. A fun way to reduce children’s technology usage. Just simple! Teach your kids to make their own  toys based on drawings using  and easy simple methods. Even a four-year-old can do it! Teach your kids have fun by learning how to sew…. just only… ¡teach your kids and have  fun!

 Fabric petal flower (intermediate child sewer). Technically it isn’t that much harder, but may require a little more finger strength as you need to push the needle through several layers of fabric.

 Turned the felt bunnies into a Felt Bunny Brooch – an adorable little Easter Craft or gift that kids can make!
