IELT success: Writing Effective Paragraphs

When writing essays, it is very important to stay on topic. In the IELTS and CAE writing exams, you will lose valuable marks if you don’t answer the question. So it’s really important to make sure your writing stays on track. In this lesson, you will learn a structure for writing paragraphs that will help you with the content and flow of your essay. You will also learn about the dos and don’ts of these exams.

Of course you can find many examples and videos. For the moment I have chosen these ones because I consider these lessons are  explained really well and, besides, they have subtitles “in case of”.

WRITING EFFECTIVE PARAGRAPHS

In this lesson, you will learn a structure for writing paragraphs that will help you with the content and flow of your essay. You will also learn about the dos and don’ts of these exams.

EASY INTRODUCTIONS

In this lesson, you’ll learn different ways to write easy but effective introductions to your essays. You don’t need to be imaginative with your introduction — all you need to do is follow the structure you watch in the video.

6 WAYS TO COMPARE

One of the most common types of essays you will have to write at university as well as on the IELTS or TOEFL is a comparison essay.  By the end of this video, you will be able to use terms such as “alike”, “similar”, “in the same way”, “likewise”, and more.

The Amazing Word Tamer

It can help your advanced students with their creative writing.

The main page is a funfair where students have different choices beginning with a game and a presentation run by a misterious man (with subtittles). The function of the games are:

Choose the characters: children  choose all  the details to describe them: the appearance, the features and the personality in order to write a story that can be printed later.

Choose a plot: There are three mirrors where you can choose the three parts of the story

Choose 3 words floating in the air: you will have to capture three special words and see what story ideas shine out from your choices.
